Halloween Pocketbooks

I love Halloween!  For basically two reasons, one the dress up and the candy!  That sounds like a perfectly good reason to celebrate to me!  Hehehehe!   This year I am having a hard time settling on a costume.  I think I might be a witch like I always do but completely go over board with it this year.  This is still a maybe.  *thinking*
Last year I posted a few post about purses and Halloween.  And this year I am going to do the same.  As I was jumping around the world wide web I ran across a few over the top and hot mess pocketbooks that would make great additions to your costumes.  Conversation pieces in a whole new light.  LOL!  Bags that NO ONE will have!  EVER!

First.... from last year

Commenting Confessions

This post is basically, more or less a rant confession about my commenting on your blog (and others)
First, let me say that I have a job.  A full time, one hour commute to work and one and half hour commute home, along with a work out schedule, a weekly dance class and a national book club to run and this blog.  I'm kinda busy!  And well...I don't comment...well...enough.  Heck, I rarely read other blogs on a regular bases.  I have my blog roll that I hit but the other day I noticed on another blog there were over 15 links to other blog post from the week.  When I click on the links there was a comment from them on each and every single one.  And I can't remember the blog at all right now.  ARGH!!

2013 Reading Resolution Update

Way back at the beginning of the year I posted my 2013 New Year Book-ish Resolutions.  It just occurred to me I should do a check up on them and see how I am doing.

I, Alysia Allen pledge not to purchase any new books for the year of 2013.  There is only one exception.  The book club book of the month is the only book I will purchase at the local independent bookstore.  I will not purchase books for giveaways either.  I will be giving away only the books currently in my possession.  If I bring new books into my house they have to be FREE!  I can purchase audiobooks and e-books since they do not live on my bookshelf.
In 2013 I will only purchase 12 (book club selection) books and nothing more.  I will read the books in my house this year regardless of age, condition and public opinion.

This is my pledge for 2013.

Free Listens for October 2013

I have noticed most bloggers post every week, month or just once in awhile a list of free or really close to free e-books.  I love free books.  Free e-books and audiobooks.
Yes there is a such thing as a free audiobook.  And they are not just boring old classics either.  I seem to run across a few new ones here and there.  So I thought I would share my free audiobook finds with you. I mean who does not like free.
If you are new to audiobooks this is a great why to try one or two without spending any money.

Dewey's 24 Hour Read-A-Thon Oct 2013: Goals

Guess what tomorrow is?
Read-A-Thon day!
Yes, one complete, 24 hour long, day devoted to reading and reading and snacks.  This going to be my 5th RAT!  Whew!
I am going to lock myself in my place, turn the cell onto silent mode and read and snack like no bodies business.  I even cancelled my workout session with my trainer today.  Why?  Because it's read-a-thon day!  I'm on my way to Trader's Joes to stock pile my kitchen with healthy and not so healthy read-a-thon snacks and beverages hot and cold.  Last read-a-thon I made the mistake of including wine with my read.  It was just a glass (or two) around hour 15.  Needless to say I didn't see hour 16 and beyond.  This time NO WINE!

Before I head to the supermarket I thought I would let you know what my Read-A-Thon Goals are.

I Love This! Khloe's Bag

I am not a big celebrity watcher. I don't mind staring at their purses and wondering if I can find it at TJMaxx.
I ran across this Polyvore page created by amber-nicki-rose  and I fell in love with Khloe Kardashian's purse. That is the perfect fall bag for all my stuff. I think I could fit my ipad in there and have room for a paperback book.  Purses like this are great for holiday travel too!  Bottle of TSA approved Mountain Spring Water...check.  Book to read...check.  Snacks...check!  That bag can hold it all!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Did you know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month?  Yep!  Along with all the halloween scares, ticks and treats we will start seeing PINK

According to the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month website...The National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) is a collaboration of national public service organizations, professional medical associations, and government agencies working together to promote breast cancer awareness, share information on the disease, and provide greater access to services.
Since its inception more than 25 years ago, NBCAM has been at the forefront of promoting awareness of breast cancer issues and has evolved along with the national dialogue on breast cancer. NBCAM recognizes that, although many great strides have been made in breast cancer awareness and treatment, there remains much to be accomplished. Today, we remain dedicated to educating and empowering women to take charge of their own breast health.
Although October is designated as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, NBCAM is dedicated to raising awareness and educating individuals about breast cancer throughout the year. We encourage you to regularly visit these sites to learn more about breast cancer, breast health, and the latest research developments. Click on any of the websites below for more information.

More than likely everyone reading this post knows of someone who's life has been touched by this cancer.  (Myself included) I thought I would share a few books to give us insight, help, and support of those people in our lives.

Release Day Party for Communion

My Little Pocketbooks is happy to celebrate the release day for “Communion”, a YA urban fantasy novel by author B. Patterson. I know that you are shocked to see a book on tour here.  I haven't done them for a long time and I said I wouldn't do them any more.  But I was shocked to say the least to see an author of color with a character of color on tour.  And it's a fantasy book!  WoW!  I just had to jump on board for this one.  The book is labeled YA "Urban" Fantasy.  But I would love to remove the label of "Urban" and just introduce it to you as a new YA Fantasy Novel.

Happy release day Communion!
