Nerve by Jeanne Ryan
A high-stakes online game of dares turns deadlyWhen Vee is picked to be a player in NERVE, an anonymous game of dares broadcast live online, she discovers that the game knows her. They tempt her with prizes taken from her ThisIsMe page and team her up with the perfect boy, sizzling-hot Ian. At first it's exhilarating--Vee and Ian's fans cheer them on to riskier dares with higher stakes. But the game takes a twisted turn when they're directed to a secret location with five other players for the Grand Prize round. Suddenly they're playing all or nothing, with their lives on the line. Just how far will Vee go before she loses NERVE?
Debut author Jeanne Ryan delivers an un-putdownable suspense thriller.
JR: My favorite one to write was the prologue. Which strikes me as funny because for years I had been warned by other writers to avoid prologues. So, of course, one of my first editorial notes was to add a prologue, because for the structure of this story it made a lot of sense. For me, finally getting to write a prologue was like eating the frosting off of cupcakes, and I enjoyed it so much I wrote several before selecting the one I’d keep.
My favorite scene to read is the climax, which I can’t go into detail about without spoiling it. But I worked on many drafts to get the right mix of detail and adrenaline. Hopefully, readers will find it a rush.
Me: Lord Jeanne don't mention cupcakes. I'm currently giving up desserts and pasta. AARRGGHH!! I can totally go for a red velvet one right about now. Back to the book. Is there anything you would like readers to take away after reading the book they may miss that you want to point out?
JR: I hope this book generates discussion on privacy, what we reveal on the Internet and what we gain in return. Certainly, there is an equation for each of us. For example, by putting my work out on a writers’ forum, I connected with a fantastic literary agent. By hanging out with other writers on that same forum and on Twitter, I’ve made friends in the industry. But I’m very curious as to where folks draw the line in terms of how much they’re willing to divulge.
Me: That is really interesting and blogging puts an interesting focus on privacy as well. Thank you for stopping by and for the giveaway.
